Mad Cow in Crowd
The Butcher Does It An infuriated cow, which was ultimately shot by a butcher, caused something approaching a panic at Hereford cattle market recently. When it arrived at the market entrance it charged the corporation toll collector and then rushed through the crowded market-place, scattering people in all directions. Mr. Seymour, a Hereford butcher, obtained a double-barrelled shot-gun and as the infuriated beast passed him fired at it point blank, but failed to bring it down. The cow immediately pulled up and prepared to charge Mr. Seymour, who dropped on one knee and raised the gun in readiness to fire the second barrel. The crowd feared that nothing could save Mr. Seymour, but when the cow was only sft away he fired and it dropped dead at his feet.
