WATERFRONT TRAFFIC
EASTERN RAILWAY LAY-OUT QUESTION OF CONGESTION Apprehension that congestion of traffic would result from the proposed railway lay-out on the waterfront east | of King’s Wharf was recently expressed by the Stevedores’ Association. With a view to determining whether there was any likelihood of difficulty J in this connection the Chamber of : Commerce convened a meeting of j representatives of the City Council, j the Harbour Board and the Railway j Department to confer. An assurance was given on behalf of the Railway Department that it could satisfactorily handle goods under the scheme. the technicalities of which were explained. The anticipated large increase in the import of phosphates, including sulphur, mainly gave cause for doubt in shipping circles as to whether the scheme would not lead to congestion, but general satisfaction was expressed after the explanation of details.
