AUTUMN MEETING CONCLUDES STAR STRANGER WINS CUP (Special to THE SUN) TRENTHAM, To-day. The Wellington Racing Club’s autumn meeting concluded to-day in fine but dull weather. The track was fast and the attendance good. Results: SECOND HIGH-WEIGHT HANDICAP Of £260; 1 mile 4 NUCLEUS 1 I—BRIGHT DAY 2 5 CLAVERS 3 All started. Won by two lengths. Time, 1.42 J. Nucleus Wins Again Mandarine was the first to show out, but when the field had settled down, Rotowhero ran to the front and led along the back from Timi Inihi, Uralla, Lancer and Mandarine. Rotowhero was still in charge across the top, but Lancer ran up to him before the straight was reached. Lancer led at the distance, but finishing gamely on the outside, Nucleus beat Bright Day by two and a-half lengths. Clavers was half a length away third, while next to finish were Lancer, Rotowhero and Uralla. HUTT HANDICAP Of £400; 1 mile. 7 CROWN AREA, 9.4 1 8— VERTIGERN, 8.10 2 1— DUKE ABBEY, 9.5 3 All started. Won by a head. Time. 1.40. A Close Finish Duke Abbey, Damaris, Cerf and Crown Area were most prominent after a furlong had been covered, but at the five furlongs, where Tiega lost his rider, White Fang joined Duke Abbey in the lead. White Fang end Duke Abbey were first to turn for home from Crown Area, Cerf, Don Jose, and Vertigern. Vertigern got to the front at the distance post, but finishing gamely, Crown Area managed to get up in time to beat Vertigern by a head. Duke Abbey was a length and a-half away third, followed by Don Jose and Damaris. TRENTHAM GOLD CUP Of £1,000; 2 miles. 2 STAR STRANGER, 9.4 1 3 SATRAP, 8.0 2 I—RAPIER, 9.4 3 All started. Won by three-quarters of a length. Time, 3.22 1-4. Australasian record. The record was 3.22 3-4.
