REFUSED TO APOLOGISE
DETERMINED CONSTABLE A police summons against Stanley Crathern Feltham, living at the Overseas Club, St. James's, London, charging him with driving a motorcar in a manner dangerous to the public was dismissed by Sir William Waterlow at the Guildhall. Constable Luekman said that at 10.40 p.m. one night he saw Mr. Feltham's car being driven in an erratic manner out of Church Row, Aldgate, into Houndsditch. Forming the opinion that he was under the influence of drink, he took Mr. Feltham to the police station. Counsel (defending): And it was found that he was not drunk and the charge was not taken? Constable Luekman admitted that was so. He was examined by the police doctor and within a few minutes? —That is so. And he demanded an apology from you and you refused to give one?—Yes. The constable further stated that when Mr. Feltham was taken to the station he said; “There is too much of these trivial offences and magistrates are commenting on it.” Dismissing the summons, Sir William Waterlow said there was no evidence of dangerous driving.
