Hector Bolitho’s Story of Travel

‘Thistledown & Thunder ’

“God preserve me from ever being a clever young man.” Hector Bolitho, the Auckland author who is rapidly making a name for himself in England, writes the above in his new book which is shortly to be published by Jonathan Cape.

Mr. Bolitho’s book is entitled “Thistledown and Thunder,” and is a story of travel in 14 countries. “He travels through the Antipodes with the Prince of Wales, meets a ghost in Australia, and crosses the Indian Ocean in a German cargo boat . . . the first after the war,” says the publisher’s advance notice. “He goes to Madeira and Africa ... he crosses Canada and moves south to New York . . . he returns to England and settles at Windsor to write Victorian history. “Mr. Bolitho is wise and amusing and courageous and sensitive in telling his story.” The young Aucklander’s last publication was his novel “Solemn Boy.”
