WOOL SEASON ENDS

FINAL AUCKLAND SALE STRONG TONE IN MARKET The life and tension which characterised the earlier sales was lacking at the third and final Auckland wool sale for the 1927-28 season, held in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall last evening. The greatest weight of a small offering of 1,438 bales was lifted by three buyers. The quality of the offering generally was not high, the catalogue being largely of the season’s odd lots, and, besides being very mixed, comprised a large percentage of the shoddier grades of top-making wools. Despite the smallness of the catalogue, however, and the comparative lack of spirit at several periods, values held firm at late Southern rates, tending on some special lots to register a slight advance. The Continent accounted for the greater part of the offering. There was only a small percentage of passings. Wool-brokers’ Report The Auckland ’Wool-brokers’ Association reports as follows: Owing to the large catalogues offered at the first and second sales, the offering on this occasion was much smaller than usual, being only 1.43 S bales. The individual catalogues in order of sale were: — Bales. N.Z. Loan and M.A. Co., Ltd 478 Dalgety and Co., Ltd., and North Auckland Farmers’, in conj 409 Farmers’ Co-op. Auct. Co., Ltd. .. 115 Abraham and Williams, Ltd 286 A. Buckland and Sons, Ltd 150 Total L43S This brought the total offering at the three sales for the season to 47,053 bales, compared with 46,520 bales for the previous season. As is usual at the third sale, there was a heavy proportion of lower-grade wools, and the catalogues generally were “mixed.” There was a representative bench of buyers, and the bidding for attractive lots was very keen, prices realised at the Southern centres being fully maintained, and almost a total clearance of catalogues was made. Individual Prices Representative prices for some of the individual brands ranged as follow: FIT over 8, 3 bales of lambs, 18id. (.T.), 3 of lambs, 163 d. W.H. over KKK, 5 of lambs, 12d.
