THE NEW SAFETY STUTZ
PERFORMANCE OF STOCK CARS As a rule, original and important developments in the motor industry do not just happen. The starting point is usually a new conception based on careful analysis, and undoubtedly this was the beginning of the new Safety Stutz cars. The fundamental aim was to build a good quality passengar car which would be fast and powerful, yet handle as easily and perform as well a modern racing car. Safety, beautiful finish and reasonable price, had also to be considered. Careful inspection of the finished Stutz models show that these aims have been amply attained. The new Stutz car, while original, is not radical. It embodies all the most modern improvements in motor-car construction, but it is different, because the features which make it so, have never before been combined in a single car. One or two are being used by different companies, all have been thoroughly proved, but the Stutz has them all. Given high-grade engine and technical specifications, however, the average motorist wants to know how they affect the performance of the car he himself will drive. The answer lies in the ideal test for this purpose—stock car racing. In the stock car races at
Atlantic City, U.S.A., last September, the Stutz cars came first, second and third. The race was one of 150 miles and the times for the winners were First 96.3 m.p.h. Second 94 m. p.h. Third 93.9 m.p.h. And it must be remembered that the cars competeing were strictly ordinary stock cars—not racing cars—identically similar to those sold by the dealers. Of course, the average motorist does not need 90 miles an hour, but speed is the truest measure of power and stamina under extraordinary conditions. That three separate Stutz cars stood up to the test is an indication of the quality and worlananship of this company’s product. The Stutz dealers claim very definite things—safety, ease of handling, great performance, power and smoothness of operation. The world wide performance of the Stutz cars is the answer.
