PRINCESS AND TIVOLI

‘THE LOVE MART” When, in the early years of the last century, slave-running to the American coast became a popular and lucrative trade among conscienceless, semipiratical adventurers, some of the most stirring events in the history of the country transpired. This is the background against which “The Love Mart,” to be shown at the Princess and Tivoli Theatres to-night, iS Featuring Billie Dove, Gilbert Roland and Noah Berry, with a strong supporting cast, this photo-drama offers unrivalled entertainI tainment. The atmosphere of the story is most intriguing. It is like a draught of heady wine or a glimpse into the pages of a thrilling novel of pirates and romance in the good old days. The story of a beautiful girl who is declared to be an octoroon and sold into slavery, only to be freed and proved white by the man who bought and loved her. makes a plot at once dramatic and intriguing. The second attraction on the programme will be the Universal film, “Cheating Cheaters.” Betty Compson plays the stellar role of her colourful career in this screaming crook production opposite Kenneth Harlan, and the pair is surrounded by capable supporting players. Eddie Gribbon. who is well known for his comedy-burglar roles, contributes many humorous interludes. “Cheating Cheaters” is a screen version of the famous stage play by the same name, from the pen of Max Marcia.
