AUSTRALIAN ELEVEN

MATCH AT NEW PLYMOUTH VISITORS SCORE WELL Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, Thursday. The match between Taranaki and the Australian cricketers was commenced yesterday in ideal weather on a hard and fast wicket, which suited the visitors admirably. Oldfield and Blackie stood down from the visiting team. The Australians had no difficulty in disposing of Taranaki for 138, and then knocked the bowling all round the field, giving a bright display of batting. Their score was 364 for three wickets when stumps were drawn for the day. Centuries were recorded by Kippax and Alexander. Ponsford was 75 not out. A feature of the Taranaki innings was the sterling display by B. B. Wilson, the North Taranaki coach, who played as well as any of the Australians under decidedly more adverse circumstances. The Australian, batsmen treated the Taranaki bowling with scant respect, and gave a most enlightening exhibition of correct, yet often aggressive, cricket. Oldfield is at present at Rotor.ua receiving treatment for neuritis, and may not be available for the first test. Richardson kept wickets yesterday.
