INCREASES IN BRITAIN FIGURES FOR FEBRUARY By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. LONDON, Monday. The Board of Trade returns for February show that imports into the United Kingdom were valued at £98,843,000, an increase of £4,991,000, in comparison with February, 1927; exports at £57,236,000, an increase of £4,299,000; and re-exports at £1JL,66;>,000, an increase of £858,000. Imports showed increases as follow: Meat, £774,000; food and drink (nondurable) £2,228,000; dutiable, £1,024,00Q; raw wool, £1,556,000; leather and manufactures thereof, £883,000. The principal decreases in imports were in coal, £923,000; iron and steel and manufactures thereof, £1,124,000; oil and fats, £717,000. Exports of food and drink increased by £633,000; cotton, yarns, and cotton manufactures, £834,000; vehicles, £506,000. Exports of coal were lower by £830,000. In a discussion on agriculture during the Budget debate, Mr. L. K. Lafiamme, Liberal member for Montmagny, said sheep-raising should be encouraged by the Government. At present Canada was at the mercy of the Australian sheep men. Canada imported wool from Australia, and even some of the meat consumed in Canada Ccime from Australia.—A. and N.Z.
