OPENING CELEBRATIONS

TOWN TO BE EN FETE HOLIDAY FOR CHILDREN (From. Our Own Correspondent.) TAURANGA, To-day. Now that March 28 has been fixed for the opening of the railway from Waihi into the town arrangements are being finalised. Invitations have been sent out to a large number of representative men from Wellington and Auckland for the official opening. Great efforts are being made by a large committee of citizens to make it a “red-letter” day for Tauranga. The town will be gaily decorated with arches, bunting and greenery, and illuminated in the evening with coloured electric lights. There will be a procession during the day time and also at night. The Auckland Education Board has given a holiday to all the schools from Waihi to Whakatane, so about 2,000 children will be here. School sports will be held on the Domain, while there will be hakas, poi dances, cycle races and other events on the Strand. In the evening the waterfront will be brilliantly lit and swimming events held.
