TO GATHER IN 20,000 CHURCH “OUTSIDERS"
evangelistic campaign EFFORTS OF PRESBYTERY There are 20,000 Presbyterians in the City of Auckland not accounted for in the church statistics. This is the estimate of the Rev. J. Pattison. newly appointed convenor of the Evangelic Committee of the Auckland Presbytery. In conveying this estimate to the Presbytery yesterday, Mr. Pattison mentioned that this year was to be a special evangelistic period, when endeavours would be made to promote religion in the home as well as to make a definite attempt to reach the •‘outsider,’* and to carry through house-to-house visitation, a special evangelistic effort in each congregation, an attempt to bring senior Sunday School scholars and Bible Class members to decision, and a special conference of the Presbytery as to the best methods of carrying this programme through. The Presbytery agreed to raise the Xorthcota charge from the status of a church extension charge to that of a sustentation one. It was agreed to recommend the Home Mission Committee to give an annual grant of £9O to the congregation at Richmond, and to reappoint the Rev. Angus MacDonald as minister there for another year on condition that the congregation continue to pay atipend at the rate of £275 per annum. The Life and Work Committee decided to ask ministers to preach a special sermon on family worship on April 15. Plans and specifications for a manse building at Hobsonville were referred to the Property Committee with power to act.
