The Hon. O. F. Nelson will sail for Sydney by the Maunganui on Friday.

Mr. J. R- Orr, of Sydney, arrived in Auckland to-day on a business visit.

Mr. F. W. Furkert, engineer-in-chief. Public Works Department, Wellington, is visiting Auckland.

Dr. and Mrs. Peter Buck, who have b>en visiting Western Samoa, have returned to Honolulu.

Mr. E. B. Mackay, of Sydney, arrived In Auckland this morning by the Maunganui. He is at the Grand Hotel.

Archbishop Averill, who is at present on a tour of the northern part of his diocese, will return to Auckland early next week.

Messrs. F. G. Smith and E. O’Meara, of Hawke’s Bay, who have* been fishing a: Russell, returned South by car today.

Mr. W. G. K. Wright, editor of the '•New Zealand Dairyman,” Wellington, who is to leave on Saturday for England, is in Auckland.

Mr. N. H. Nash, of the Manawatu “Evening Standard,’’ together with Mrs. Nash, is spending some time in the Waikato district.

Mr. H. F. Ayson, Resident Commissioner at Rarotonga, arrived in Wellington by the Makura yesterday on a short visit.

Bishop J. Darnand was welcomed hack to Samoa by a large gathering of Roman Catholic adherents. The bishop has recently visited Europe and the United States.

Mr. S. Whitehurst. 0.8. E., deputy chief mechanical engineer of the railways of the United Provinces of India, arrived in Auckland this morning on holiday.

After attending to private business this morning the Prime Minister was the guest of the Christchurch Rotary Club at luncheon to-day.

The Rev. John Ryley, Presbyterian minister at Owaka, Otago, celebrated his 94th birthday recently. He is still able to visit the sick and do a little other church work.

Mr. G. E. Murphy, for the last five years manager of the Te Puke branch oC the Bank of New Zealand, has been promoted to a position in the Auckland o®ce.

Mr. H. White-Wickham, of London, arrived back in Auckland this mornirg after a big game fishing trip to Mercury Bay. He is at the Grand Hotel.

The Hon. E. J. Prattcn, Commonwealth Minister of Trade and Customs. left for Wellington by train last evening in company with Sir Francis Bell.

Professor H. C. Brown, of the Department of Philosophy, Stanford University, who lias been spending a holiday in Auckland, will leave by the Niagara to-day.

Captain Foster, of Whangarei, adjutant of the North Auckland Mounted Rifles, went South last evening. Captain Potter, of the North Auckland Regiment, also left Auckland for the Sc uth.

Mr. E. W. G. Thorpe, of the child welfare officer’s staff, Auckland, lias be?n promoted to take charge at Hamilton, to replace Mr. Philip Goodwin, wl o lias been placed in charge of the W Ellington office.
