QUEENSLAND BUTTER
NO EXPORT TRADE IMPORTATIONS FROM N.Z. At present no refrigerated vessels leave Queensland ports, and consequently there is no possible hope of dairy farmers in that part of Australia exporting frozen butter. In an effort to right the position Mr. J. J. Macaulay, of Rockhampton, Queensland, is on his way to Canada and England, where he hopes to interview responsible people who may be persuaded to foster the dairy export trade. Mr. Macaulay, who is sailing by the Niagara, is agent for the Port Curtis Co-operative Company and Denham Bros., Rockhampton. Pie pointed out yesterday that the Australian summer season catches the winter season in
Canada, which is one reason why the Australian export industry should be fostered. Dairying is increasing rapidly in Queensland, but the farmers are handicapped because of their inability to export frozen butter. Last year was a very dry one for the State, but this year has been very good. Much more land along the sea coast of Queensland is being turned over to dairying, and the farmers are now asking that they be assisted in the overseas sale of their produce. Mr. Macaulay would not discuss the export of butter from New Zealand as it affected Australia, other than to say that it was absurd that a t country which, produced so much butter of its own should import from this Dominion.
