Y.W.C.A. LUNCHEON

TO MEET MISS WEEKS A delightful luncheon party was given yesterday in the airy Y.W.C.A. tea-room by Miss Jean Begg, general secretary of the Y.W.C.A., for Miss of Honolulu. Miss Weeks has been touring New Zealand assisting unofficially in the organisation of the . New Zealand delegation to the Pan-Pacific Conference to be held at Honolulu in August. The women invited to meet Miss Weeks included prominent citizens, representative of the various women's movements interested in the PanPacific Conference, and Press representatives. After lunch the guests adjourned to Miss Begg’s “office-drawing-room,” where the approaching conference was discussed. Miss Weeks, wlio is a personal friend of Miss Satterthwaite, the organising secretary for the conference, answered many questions regarding accommodation, the number of delegates expected from each country, etc., and gave some very helpful advice regarding weather conditions and suitable Clothes. The nominations already received were read, and discussed. Miss Melville took the opportunity of pointing out how important it was that the New Zealand delegates should not be merely sectional representatives. Miss Begg announced that the Government had been approached for recognition and subsidisation, but that so far no reply had been received. The guests were: Dr. Staley, Dr. Hilda Northcroft. Mrs. Ferner, Miss Carnachan, Miss Ellen Melville, Miss Elsie Griffin (Australia), Miss Baggely. Miss Spicer and Miss Newman. Do not throw away your old silver thimble because are worn in it. If you drop a very little warm sealingwax inside the thimble and dip your finger in cold water before pressing it well on, the old friend will work for you as faithfully as ever.
