POLICE PICNIC
FUN ON PINE ISLAND Accompanied by the Birkenhead Brass Band, about 1,000 members of the Auckland Police Force and their friends journeyed to Pine Island on Sunday for their annual picnic. Superintendent W. G. Wohlmann and Metropolitan Inspector J. Mcllveney were unable to be present. Among the officers who attended were Inspector J. W. Hollis. Ex-superintendent C. W. Hendry acted as starter for the athletic events and Senior-Sergeant J. Cummings acted as judge. Constable J. Coutts acted as secretary. The sports results were as follow: Police Championship, 100 Yards.—Constable L. Wilson, 1; Constable U>. Miller, 2; Constable A. Doel. 3. Police Handicap. 100 Yards.—Constable Goebel, 1; Constable Elms, 2: Constable Doel, 3. Sergeants’ Race, 100 Yards.—Detective Sergeant McHugh, 1; Sergeant Capp, 2; Sergeants Flanagan and Clausen, dead heat, 3. Long-Service Race (20 years and over). 50 yards.—Sergeant Capp, 1; Sergeant Fitzgerald, 2. Policemen’s Wives, 50 Yards.—Mrs. Gawler, 1: Mrs. Collins, 2; Mrs. Johnson,
