A letter was receive ! from the vica* of St. Peter’s Anglican Church V gretting that the vestry had no to build a rockery to replace an o’d stone wall on the church property abutting on Queen Street. The qiW tion was referred to the Reserve* Committee with a recommendation tn endeavour to assist the vestry building a rockery.
The Onehunga Borough Council am the One Tree Hill Fujad Beard are joint owners of an area of eight acres of land in the Maungatawhiri Valiev which was bought some years ago as a possible site for a reservoir. xh* On© Tree Hill Road Board n?w ask* the council to purchase its half-inter-est in the reserve, and also iugge«t' that the City Council might be wiiw to make an offer for the property. The chairman of the Onehuns Sports Federation wrote stating that the council’s offer of a lease of tht recreation reserve for three years too short a term in which to undertake any permanent work. The federation therefore asked the counci to retain control, and undertake thf work of levelling the reserve, the cor to be taken out of an uneepender balance of £654 which the land ha yielded in grazing fees.
It was agreed to await a report from the Reserves Committee before taking further action. The Deputy-Mayor said that the council should* discuss the question with the federation with a view to imp.roving the grounds befornext year’s football season. Applications from Rugby, Soccer and League football clubs for the use of grounds on the recreation reserve were granted to the Rugby and Soccer clubs only, there being no League football club in the borough. The following accounts are in credit District fund, £ 1,884; drainage advances loan, £298; water mains loan. £399; destructor loan, £ll4. The town clerk drew attention to the fact that the One Tree Hill Road Board had been given permission to sink a shaft for water on the One Tree Hill Domain. It was decided that the Domain Board be written to, asking for the same privilege when required, and protesting against the road board starting operations the day before permission was granted. The Alayor and town c*erfc were authorised to take any steps deemed necessary to protect the boroughs water supply. During the past fortnight 17,500,000 gallons of water were pumped from the Onehunga springs.
