TERRITORIAL CONTESTS
ARMY RIFLE MEETING Press Association. TRENTHAM, Monday. The sixth annual Army rifle meeting will open to-morrow and continue for five days. Territorials are arriving from all parts of the Dominion. At present 500 are in camp, and the number is expected to reach 700. The object of the meeting is to promote interest in weapon training for service purposes, by means of individual and collective competitions, which are framed to lead to increased efficiency on the battlefield. There are four practices in match one, which includes rapid firing, snap shooting, deliberate shooting and movement shooting. The -champion shot of the Army will be the competitor credited with the highest aggregate score in all practices, and he will be awarded a belt and gold medal. Money prizes also will be awarded. In addition, there are matches for trophies at tiles and moving targets, teams competitions, machine, Lewis and Hotchkiss guns, and night firing. There will be also a cadet championship and battle practices. The weather is favourable for a successful gathering.
