FIGHT ON STEAMER

LASCAR IN COURT IN CUSTODY FOR PROTECTION Press Association. GISBORNE, Monday. A native of Rangoon. Abdul Nabee Sultan Khan, aged 22, appeared at the Police Court this morning charged with assaulting Taherulla Amis Mahomed on the steamer Argyllshire. He was remanded until to-morrow. Counsel who appeared for accused agreed that a remand would be the best course, as he said it was considered to be dangerous for accused to be placed back on the ship. There was a good deal of feeling between different sections on the vessel and, although accused might have done no wrong, others might attack him. It seemed hard, however, that he should be in custody when he had committed practically no offence.
