INTER HOUSE GIRLS SPORTS
DOMAIN ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT The searchlight display at the Domain next Wednesday promises to be one of th© biggest things of its kind ever seen in New Zealand. There will be brilliant racing, massed band music, organised games, poi dances by Maori girls and a huge grand march —in short, a feast both to the eye and the ear. Th© gymnastic and physical drill display alone will be well worth the attendance. The girls are trained by Lieutenant Laffey, who had charge of the military pageant. In support of this carnival the employers of all soft goods houses in the city are allowing the girls to leave business at an early hour several afternoons a week. The girls are thus encouraged to train for the forthcoming display, and so keen are they to make the effort: a. success, that hundreds make their way nightly to the Drill Hall, there to be put through their paces with military precision by Lieutenant Laffey. The grand march and assembly, one of the principal features of the display, will demonstrate what girls can achieve in the way of massed effects and colourful harmony. In all 13 houses are represented and the total number taking part is 350 girls. A musical treat will be provided by massed bands. Various; bands have been allotted different routcss, but they are all timed to arrive at the Domain by 7.45 p.m. Searchlights and special floodlights will make the ground as bright as day. Th© proceeds of this carnival are being directed to the Mayor's Unemployment Fund.
