EARLY SUPPORTER OF AVIATION By Cable. — Press Association.—Copyright* VANCOUVER, Friday. A message from Atlantic City, New Jersey, says that Rodman Wanaumker, the New York and Philadelphia merchant, who was one of the earliest supporters of aviation, died to-day.—A. and N.Z. Lewis Rodman Wanamaker was the son of John B. Wanamaker, the founder of the largest department stores in the world- He was educated at Princeton and later became president of his father’s stores. He became consul-general for Paraguay and later consul for Uruguay and the Republic of Dominica. In 1911 he built the airship "America,” which was wrecked in 1914. and also the second “America,” which was presented to the British Government during the war.

In 1918 he was appointed executor to the estate of the late James Gordon Bennett, proprietor of the "New York Herald,” who sent Stanley to search for Livingstone in Africa, and who presented the Gordon Bennett Cup for motor-rscing.
