SEWAGE IN HARBOUR

COMMITTEE STARTS INQUIRY DRAINAGE IN MANUKAU A representative committee which will inquire into the drainage position in Auckland, commenced its investigations this afternoon. The committee was primarily set up as a result of complaints about the discharge of sewage into the Manukau Harbour, under the New Lynn scheme to discharge at Karaka Bay. The question was mentioned in Parliament, and it was after this that the Minister of Health, the Hon. J. A. Young, decided to set up an inquiry, the committee comprising Dr. Chesson, Medical Officer of Health, the District Engineer of the Public Works Department, Harbour and Drainage Boards’ representatives, and members of local bodies.
