MOTORISTS CREATE OWN INCONVENIENCE
SECURING NEW LICENCES USUAL LATE RUSH
If thousands of motorists fret and fume during the next fortnight because they spend valuable time waiting in queues for new number plates and driving licences, they will have no one but themselves to blame.
In six weeks the post office has issued 5,000 pairs of new plates. In the next two weeks it will be called upon to issue about 10,000 more.
In two weeks the traffic office at the Town Hall has issued about 2,000 drivers’ licences. In the next fortnight it will have to issue about 13,000 to 14,000 more.
An inspection this morning showed that five minutes at each place would enable the licence and plates to be issued.
The experiences of last year indicate that the last-minute rush will keep the motorists engaged—mostly standing in queues—for at least half an hour at either place. As the officers in charge point out the motorists will have only themselves to blame.
