CHURCH DRAMA

FORMER ARCHDEACON SENT TO ASYLUM By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Friday. One of the most remarkable church dramas of recent times is recalled by the announcement that the former Archdeacon Wakeford has been certified insane, and sent to the Kent County Asylum. The case was heard by the Privy Council in February, 1921. Archdeacon Wakeford was the central figure in a scandal which fluttered Church circles in England several years ago. The scandal arose from a divorce action in which the archdeacon was sued, the evidence against him being largely based upon a reported meeting between him and a woman in Lincolnshire Cathedral. Mystery surrounded the identity of this woman, who could not be traced.
