The First Cargo
RAIL FROM BAY OF PLENTY
Prize Bullocks for Westfield ON Tuesday the first consignment of goods by rail ■will ax-rive at Auckland from the Bay of Plenty district. Included in the consignment will be 13 prize bullocks for the Auckland Meat Company. They will go to W estfield. These bullocks are all prize-winners from the Te Puke Agricultural and Pastoral Show, which was held recently, and are very fine examples of the splendid beef which can be produced in the disti-iet.
the new line through the Bay of Plenty will not be officially opened until March 28, the Railway Department has made arrangements for the carriage of stock
and manures. This action has met with the approval of the farming community, which is enthusiastic over the possibilities of transport over the new section of railway. The stock for the Auckland Meat Company will leave Tauranga by train on Monday morning and will arrive at Westfield early on Tuesday morning. No doubt other firms will take advantage of the facilities to train goods to and from the Bay of Plenty.
About 19 trucks of stock will arrive at Westfield on Tuesday from the Bay of Plenty. Much of it is for the sale at the Westfield yards on Wednesday. So far a definite time-table has not
been arranged, but it is believed that a suggestion has been made to run the present Auckland-Thames express to Tauranga, making that the terminus instead of Thames. In order to accommodate the Thames district a train will run from Paeroa to connect with the Tauranga-Auckland express. Railway officials are at present working on a time-table which will be submitted to the Divisional Superintendent.
