TROTS AT TIMARU
BAD DAY FOR FAVOURITES INTERFERENCE IN CUP RACE Pr'ess Associatioyi. TIMARU, Friday. In fine weather and before a fair attendance, the Timaru Trotting Club commenced its autumn carnival to-day. The heavy rain of the previous night had the effect of slowing up the track. There was a big drop in the totalisator turnover, but last year, when £20,677 was put through the machine, it was a one-day fixture and held on a Saturday. The figures to-day were £12,346. A FEATURE of the day’s sport was the failure of favourites, and while in some instances the first choice secured second honours, not one succeeded in returning a first dividend. The Cup provided an interesting contest, Daphne de Oro and Colene Pointer being the best backed and when the
horses flashed past the post, D. Withers had his charge in front of the favourite, with the game and consistent Author Jinks close up third. After the race an inquiry was held into alleged interference with Author Jinks by Daphne de Oro in the straight, and as a result the placing of the judge with regard to second and third was altered, and Author Jinks received second money, and gave his supporters a good return for their outlay.
