Found Dead Near Railway Tunnel
PARNELL TRAGEDY WELL-KNOWN CITY MAN At 1.15 o’clock this morning the body of Adam Maxwell Kelly was found lying on the railway line a few yards from the city end of the Parnell Tunnel. Apparently Mr. Kelly had been dead for some time. The discovery was made by the men who were bringing a locomotive in from Otahuhu in the early hours of this morning. They saw the body lying across the rails and made investigations. The skull was badly fractured and death must have been instantaneous. It is thought that he was either struck by a train or had fallen on his head. There is a track across the railway line near where Mr. Kelly’s body was found. It leads down from the Domain up to Parnell and is used by pedestrians. Mr. Kelly may have been crossing the line just as a train emerged from the tunnel. ' Mr. Kelly was a surveyor who, with his brother, Mr. F. ,V. Kelly, had offices in the Safe Deposit Buildings, High Street,. He was a married man residing at St. Mary’s Lodge, Parnell.
