NO HOLIDAY FOR SHOW At a meeting of the ladies’ committee of the A. and P. Show, it wa stated thta the Te Kuiti District High School Committee had decided not to give the school children a holiday on Show Day. Keen regret was expressed by members, as the association had included several children - classes in the schedule as in former years. The total number of entries for this year’s show in all sections arc greater than those of last year. * • • The Te Kuiti Operatic Society was accorded a very hearty reception on Wednesday evening, on the occasion of the presentation of the popular opera, “The Mikado.” Part of tl • proceeds are to be devoted toward-, the cost of a swimming weir. The principal characters were: Mikado. Mr. J. B. Grey; Xanki Poo, Mr. J. Battersby (Hamilton); Ko-Ko, Mr. W. S. Cato; Pooh-Bah. Mr. A. Blackmar.; Yum-Yum. Mrs. A. C. Lavington Peep-80, Miss L. Taylor; Pitti-Sing, Miss Carmen Sparks; Watisha, Mis.M. Jacob. A total of 40 performers took part. The outstanding featurewere the singing of Miss Jacob, in tbc difficult and exacting role of Katisb -, and the clever acting of Mrs. Lavington and Mr. Battersby in their duet. “Were You Xot to Koko Flighted The well-trained choruses, the lighting effects and the excellent orchestra, combined to make the performance a most enjoyable entertainment. At the conclusion of the opera th*' principals were the recipients onumerous bouquets and tokens of appreciation.
