Mystery surrounds the airman Captain Hinchcliffe’s destination, Officials at the Cranwell Airdrome in Lincolnshire are not aware whether it is to be India or across the Atlantic. TT is certainly one or the other. The machine has accommodation for two, but it is not known who is to accompany him. The Hon. Elsie Mackay, who was reported by the “Daily Express” to have planned a transatlantic flight in company with Captain Hinchcliffe, said: “I am very annoyed about the whole matter. I never intended going. I only had a small financial interest in a project to establish a record nonstop flight.”—A. and N.Z. The “Daily Express” announced: The Hon. Elsie Mackay, third daughter of Viscount Inchcape, the shipping magnate, proposes starting at noon to-day from the Cranwell airdrome in Lincolnshire, with Captain Hinchcliffe as pilot, in a machine named “Adventure,” which was brought especially from America. The plane has a cruising speed of 90 miles an hour. A course will be laid straight for the west coast of Ireland and from there to Newfoundland. Secret preparations for the flight have been in progress for some months. Extra petrol tanks have been installed in the wings of the machine and more Is to be carried in aluminium tins. This will save 2£lb per four-gallon tin.
