THE AUTHOR OF “ANATOL”
Long one of Europe’s most famous, literary figures, Schnitzler is fctill writing. Like not a few fellow-writers — Bridges. Francis Brett Young, and Somerset Maugham, for example— Schnitzler is a qualified medical man. His play “Anatol” was staged in England by Granville Barker, and others, especially “The Green Cockatoo,” are well known in translated book form. “The Way to Freedom” is his best noveL He was born in Vienna, in 1862
power of narrative. Two women influence the Malay prince’s doings in his clays of outlawry. One was his wife; the other was an Irish girl who really understood him better than anyone else Both are portrayed vividly. Thers is plenty of adventure in the tale* but the present reviewer’s strongest impression of the book is of the principal characters. That is a tribute to it.
