MINISTER AT KAITAIA ANSWER TO DEPUTATION (From Our Oicn Correspondent) KAITAIA, To-day. The Hon. J. A. Young, Minister of Health, received a deputation at Kaitaia last night, which asked that no further expenditure should be entered upon by the Department of Health on iho Mangonui Hospital, as the deputation felt that Kaitaia would in time become the base hospital, and money should be spent there. Further, they considered the Mangonui Hospital to be obsolete, and thought that its days 'vore numbered. In his reply the Minister congratulated members of the deputation on the way in which they had put their ca.se. He was glad to hear that they conside red that there was no immediate reed for moving the hospital to Kair»i*. The building of one there would '°st at least £33.000. and the county c °uld not carry this expenditure yot. > s for the curtailment of the expenditure at Mangonui. that was in the hands of the board. In regard to the subsidy for treating indigent natives, an increase in u 'hich was asked for, the Minister s aid that the Government, was doing ;t great deal already, and lie thought that: the consolidation of native lands "ould do much to solve the problem.
