CUP TO NAMUTERE (Special to THE SUN) OPOTIKI, Wednesday. The Opotiki Jockey Club’s annual meeting was held to-day in showery weather. The course was holding. The totalisator handled £4,213 10s, a decrease of £432 10s on last year. There was some interesting racing. After a false start the field went off in bunch, Flying Foam taking the lead until coming into the straight, when The Author came with a good run and won by a length, two lengths separating second and third. Coming up the straight the first time round the order was Namutere, Roman Abbey, Cherry Girl and Garzon, all well together. Going round the back Namutere _ was still |n the lead, with Garzon moving up, as also was Roman Abbey. Namutere, however, was not to be denied, and a great finish resulted in Namutere winning by half a length, a length separating second and third. Time, 2.12*. HACK HANDICAP 6 furlongs. 1— LADY’S BOY, 8.12, Forbes 1 2 KIMBO, 7.3, Ducker 2 4 MANUTAI, 8.3, Atkins 3 Also started: Erin’s Last, 9.0. Won by four lengths, a neck between second and third.
