CUP TO NAMUTERE (Special to THE SUN) OPOTIKI, Wednesday. The Opotiki Jockey Club’s annual meeting was held to-day in showery weather. The course was holding. The totalisator handled £4,213 10s, a decrease of £432 10s on last year. There was some interesting racing. Following are the results; MAIDEN PLATE Six furlongs. 2- 8.8, Nixon 1 I—KIMBO, 8.8, Atkins 2 6—EASTBOURNE, Spinks 3 Also started: 3 Lady Castlemaine, 8.11; 4 Otangihakau, 9.0; 5 Harmonic, 8.5; 7 Frosty Morning, 8.11. Won easily by one and a-half lengths. Time, 1.19*. MacDONALD MEMORIAL Six furlongs. I—LADY'SI—LADY'S BOY, 7.6, allowed 41b. allowance, Forbes 1 3 CHERRY GIRD, 7.11, 41b. overweight, Atkins 2 3—INNER HARBOUR, 7.9, 41b. allowance, Baker 3 Also started; 4 Manutai, 8.5, 191 b. overweight. Won by a length, a neck between second and third. Time, 1.17 3-5. WAIOEKA STAKES Five furlongs. 1— TAKUTAMA, 9.4, Atkins 1 2 KING WILLONYX, 9.4, Nixon .. 2 3 MOSQUE, 8.8, Forbes 3 Also started: 4 lago, 8.8; 5 Kimbo, 8.8. Won by one and a-half lengths, a length between second and third. Time, 1.3. After a false start the field went off in bunch, Flying Foam taking the lead until coming into the straight, when The Author came with a good run and won by a length, two lengths separating second and third. Coming up the straight the first time round the order was Namutere, Roman Abbey, Cherry Girl and Garzon, all well together. Going round the back Namutere _ was still |n the lead, with Garzon moving up, as also was Roman Abbey. Namutere, however, was not to be denied, and a great finish resulted in Namutere winning by half a length, a length separating second and third. Time, 2.12*. HACK HANDICAP 6 furlongs. 1— LADY’S BOY, 8.12, Forbes 1 2 KIMBO, 7.3, Ducker 2 4 MANUTAI, 8.3, Atkins 3 Also started: Erin’s Last, 9.0. Won by four lengths, a neck between second and third. From a good start Takutama led round the back, followed by Roman Abbey, the former holding his own up the straight and winning by a length. King Willonyx was third, half a length away.
