POPULACE PANIC-STRICKEN By Cabte.—Press Association. —CopyrijrV. Reed. 12.15 p.m. MESSINA. Wed The severest earthquake since the disaster of 1908 occurred today. It lasted ten seconds. So far no loss of life has been reported, but a panic occurred, the populace rushing Into the streets fear - stricken. Many camped in the open. Fortunately the buiUiings erected since the earthquake of 1908 generally withstood the shocks, but the damage is considerable in some towns.—A and N.Z. Messina, an important sea pert of is the capital of a province of the name, and stands on the Strait of Messina. It is a city of great antiquity, and has several times been partially destroyed by earthquakes.
