FORGERY OF CHEQUE

HABITUAL CRIMINAL SENTENCED (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, To-day. At the Supreme Court yesterday Mr. Justice Blair sentenced Theodore Thomas, a young man found guilty of forging and uttering a cheque for £2 10s, to three years’ imprisonment. The prisoner asked for a new trial, and said he had shown the Court that a mistake had been made in identity. The Judge said he was convinced that no mistake had been made, and that he agreed with the verdict. Had prisoner not already been declared an habitual criminal he w'ould have declared him one.
