OLYMPIC TEAM

NEW ZEALAND SELECTION MISS STOCKLEY TO GO Press Association. WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The Olympic Council to-night decided to send the following team to Amsterdam: Javelin Throw: S. Lay (Hawera). Running: Miss Wilson (Gisborne). Swimming: Miss Kathleen Miller (Dunedin), Miss Ena Stockley (Auckland) and D. P. Lindsay (Canterbury). Boxing: E. Morgan. Strenuous endeavours are to be made to raise funds to send a rowing team to compete in the “eights,” “fours,” double sculls and pairs in the Olympic events. Subsequently the other nominations submitted will be considered. S. A. Lay is the Australasian lavelin champion and record-holder. His best effort is 209 ft 7in, less than Oft short of the world’s record. Miss Wilson is a young Gisborne girl who recently ran 100yds in l-5s slower than the world’s record for girls. Misses Stockley and Miller are at present in Australia, where they have had a remarkable run of successes, both having won Australasian championships. Miss Stockley holds four New Zealand records. D. P. Lindsay is head and shoulders above any other swimmer in New Zealand. Although his times are scarcely up to world’s championship standard, he has won his races so easily that it is considered he would improve greatly against stronger competition. :E. Morgan is the lightweight boxing champion of New Zealand. He is a Wellington boy and fights “south-paw,” that is, with right arm and right foot forward. He is a particularly hard hitter.’ a
