WAIHI LAUNCH PARTY RETURNS

SHELTERED FROM STORM The Waihi launch party is safe at Mayor Island. Six of the men returned to Waihi on Monday by motor-car from Tauranga; the other two remained with the launch to try and save her. The party, which left on Saturday afternoon for Mayor Island, was caught by a south-east gale and rather than attempt to land at Bowentown bar, which was considered too dangerous, returned to Mayor Island. The men were picked up by a fishing launch off the island and taken to Tauranga. The party consisted of Colin Cooper and Leslie Wilson (owners of the launch), Neil Mangussen, Reginald Burke, William Hales, “Sandy 5 ’ Thompson, Peter Bennie, and* Harry Cornes.
