MINING NEWS

KURANUI.—The manager reports: “The rise from the cross-cut has been extended a further Bft for the week, making a total of 30ft from the drive, with still no change in the country. The rise on the footwall leader has been driven 7ft for the week, making a total of 26ft from the back of the drive. The leader is encased in o nice class of country for making gold, and the quartz broken from here still shows a lot of silica and blend.”

MAORILAND.—The manager reports: “For the week ended March 3 the No. 4 level drive was advanced sft, making the total to date 27ft from the main level. At that point the reef was pinched to about Ift in width, and has changed its underlay, which is not as great as before. It has also changed its course, and is now bearing more to the north, which is the true course of the reef.”

OCCIDENTAL UNA.—The manager reports: “The country encasing the reef in the stope going north remains good. The reef is a compact body of stone, and gold can be seen in the ore at each breaking down. The ore broken from the stopes going south shows nice dabs Oi* gold.”
