According to a radio message received by Mr. Ivan O’Meara the reception given to Mr. Bert Hinkler at Brisbane yesterday was described in the Brisbane papers as being comparable to the welcome accorded to the Duke of York. Escorted by airplanes, Hinkler landed on the Ascot racecourse and proceeded through streets crowded with cheering spectators to the City Hall, where he was received by the Mayor and Mayoress, and with bands playing a fanfare of welcome. The airman is being entertained by various clubs to-day and will proceed on Saturday to Sydney, where he will be received by an escort of 14 planes and welcomed by the Governor of New South Wales, Sir Dudley de Chair. At a civic reception at Bundaberg Hinkler was presented with a cheque for £719 subscribed by the citizens of his home town.
