EIGHTEEN-TON BELL

FOR NEW YORK CARILLON British Wireless—Press Assn.—Copyright RUGBY, Sunday. The easting of the largest bell ever made in England, and the fourth largest in existence, was celebrated at Croydon yesterday by 2,300 bellringers from all parts of the country. This bell, with others, has been made for a carillon in Riverside Church at New York. Its note is two tones lower than that of any bell hitherto tuned in this country. The weight of the bell is 181 tons. —A. and N.Z.
