IN THE RAIN ELLERSLIE GALLOPS SIR ARCHIE GOES WELL The grass tracks were not available at Ellerslie this morning on account of heavy rain, and consequently not a great deal of fast work was carried out. The tan and the sand were in use, but it was on the former track that the galloping took place. A splendid effort was that recorded by the Franklin Cup candidate, Sir Archie, who traversed a round in 2.2. Jumping off smartly he went speedily over the first couple of furlongs and was then allowed to go at a good strong pace. At the live-furlong peg, his stable companion, Huephano, joined in, the pair moving over that distance in only fair time. Neither was bustled at the finish. The manner in which the Archiestown gelding has been acquitting himself in his work must be pleasing to his admirers. May Repeat Te Aroha Form Gala Day, in view of his Cup engagement at Franklin on Saturday, was given a task extending to a mile and a-quarter. He was timed to run the last mile in 1.51 2-5, and the last seven furlongs in 1.36 4-5. He was not unduly hurried, and although he is not a great fancy for the big event he is a possibility. Semi-Circle and Salamander, who were picked up by Scaramouche over the last five furlongs, moved comfortably over seven in 1.36 3-5, the last half-mile taking 55. Scaramouche, Semi-Circle and Salamander was the order in which they finished, but all were doing it nicely. Parfait Amour was restricted to a five-furlong task, which took 1.7 3-5. Corinax and Archibald were associated in a bout over seven furlongs in 1.35. The last six furlongs were run in 1.21 2-5, with the former holding his companion easily. The going was against Palmares when his stable mate, Bombarder, beat him over half a mile in 53 2-5. Modest Boy was timed to run an easy seven furlongs in 1.40 3-5, while Bizarro, who was having his second sprint since again appearing at Ellerslies, registered 54 1-5 for four furlongs. Baby Bun travelled well over seven furlongs in 1.39 3-5, the last six furlongs taking 1.26. She is in the Franklin Cup. Another Franklin Cup aspirant, Princess Ronnie, galloped over seven furlongs, her time for that distance being 1.34 4-5. She moved well throughout, and it is reasonable to suppose that she will command a good following in her engagement on Saturday. Betty Zane covered half a mile in 54, but was not asked to do her best at the end. BLOODSTOCK SALES WOORAK COLTS SOLD By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. MELBOURNE, To-day.
