deadlock in dispute proposal for inquiry _ Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright. Bec d. 2.15 p.m. LONDON, Monday. A complete deadlock has been reached in the conference between piasters and employees in the cotton industry. Following a five-hour sitting the trade unions rejected a proposal to hold an inquiry, by a committee comarising 12 from each side, into the effects of finance, taxation, hours, wages, and trade union restriction. They demanded a smaller body with an independent chairman, as well as an assessor for each side. They drew attention to the breaches of the existing agreement. mads by two firms.— A. and N.Z. According to a message from London ' February 15 a sensation was caused in the cotton industry by the decision of the Master Spinners* Association to terminate the existing hours and wages agreements and to insist upon a 12* per rent reduction in wages and an extension of the working time by four hours a ■week. These terms were to apply to the mills where American cotton is spun. The Bolton employers, who are handling Egyptian staple, refused to support the resolution.
