Waikato Club’s Good Programme

£3,200 FOR COMPETITION FIELDS SHOULD BE LARGE Prizes that will attract are the objective of the majority of racingr clubs at the present day, and the autumn meeting of the Waikato Racing Club is no exception to this rule. The programme drawn up is highly attractive, and owners and trainers are provided with plenty of scope in which to place their horses. The meeting, which covers Saturday and Monday, April 28 and 30, will be held on the club’s fine course at Te Rapa, Hamilton, than which there is perhaps none better. No doubt the fact of the course being within easy distance of Auckland will influence a large number of owners, and with the good fields that will thus be provided, a contingent of racing enthusiasts from Auckland and its suburbs will assist to carry the fixture to a successful conclusion. The most important event, of course, will be the Storey Memorial Cup Handicap, which is for the middledistance performers. The winner’s portion of the stake is well worth capturing, including as it does £350 in specie and a gold cup of the value of £IOO. Then there is second and third money, £IOO and £SO respectively. One and a-quarter miles will be the distance of the race, and that should be entirely to the liking of the majority of the candidates. The other leg of the double is the sprint, the President’s Handicap, six furlongs. The prospects of a nice field contesting this event are bright. Its value is £3OO, with £2lO for the horse that fills the major role. Second horse will claim £ 60, and third place is equal to £3O. Other events on the first day’s programme are the Juvenile Handicap, of £l5O, run over five furlongs; the Puketahi High-weight Handicap, of £l5O, one mile; the Linley Hack Handicap, of £l5O, one mile, the FrankttJa Handicap Hurdle race, of £l5O, one mile and a-half; the Beres-court Hack Handicap, of £IOO, one mile; and the Maiden Stakes, of £IOO, six fur’.ongs. On the second day, attention is drawn to the Te Rapa Handicap, a race worth £4OO, and run over a mile. First money is to the value of £2BO, with £BO for the second horse, and £4O for the third. The sprint is similar to the first day, being worth £2lO to the victor, and £6O and £3O to th e minor placings. Bess important than the above-men-tioned two events will come the Eureka Handicap, for two-year-olds, of £l5O. six furlongs; the Rangiriri HighWeight Handicap, of £l5O, one mile; the Huntly Hack Handicap, of £l5O, one mile; the Raglan Handicap Hurdle Raoe, of £l5O, one mile and threequarters (over seven flights of hurtles); the Te Rore Hack Handicap, of £IOO. six furlongs; and the Ohinewal Maiden Handicap, of £IOO, six furlongs.
