FIGHT IN HOTEL
TWO AGAINST ONE MAN’S CLOTHES DAMAGED With hi»" back to the wall outside a hotel, John McLaughlin, on Saturday, had to fight off two men who had assaulted him. The story -was told at the Police Court to-day -when Thomas David Dunlop, aged 27, and Archibald Campbell, aged 29, were each charged with assaulting Ngare Whiunui and John McLaughlin. Dunlop was also charged with damaging a coat valued at £5. John McLaughlin said that he was attacked first by Dunlop, who tore his coat. He walked outside, where he was struck again by Campbell. Whiunui, who went to McLaughlin’s assistance, said that he had been struck, too. Campbell in the course o£ evidence said that there were others in the trouble. “They’re not here,” he said, “because they know how good it would be for them.” “That’s the stuff, boy,” called a voice from the back of r ,he court. The court orderly made an unsuccessful search for the owner of the voice. Each of the accused was fined £2 jn one charge, Campbell was fined £1 on a second, and Dunlop was orlered to have the damaged coat repaired.
