DIX IN “SHANGHAI BOUND” Packed houses at the New Regent this week are acclaiming the new powerful drama, "Shanghai Bound, featuring Richard Dix. . In a rich and lavish setting, representing the private sanctum of a wealthy Mandarin, one discovers the Chinese master himself surrounded by his white slaves who, roused from their sleep, perform a Buchanan dance for the delight of them master. They then bring in a white girl captured that morning from n American boat that was Shanghai Bound.” Dorothy Woolley as the captive white girl does a very excellent eurythmic dance, and rouses the passionate ardour of the mandarin. In the very act of kissing her a mysterious shot is fired and the Chinaman falls dead. Miss Cecil Hall's pize ballet, beautifully dressed and in rich colouring, received geat applause for their dancing. ... ~ Billy Doolley. the man with the rubber face, is seen in one of the funniest comedies ever screened. The "Mooney Mariner,” an eccentric and clever Inkwell Imp Cartoon, and a Regent Gazette of interesting news and a scenic of Portland, Victoria, are other items, while by way of contrast a beautiful English production, "Haunted Houses of England,” illustrates the story of 'The Mistletoe Bough.” Leslie V. Harvey at the Wurlitzer receives enthusiastic applause for his rendering of Schubert’s "Serenade,” and “Hello Aloha,” and is forced to respond to an encore at every performance.
