IYA’S DIRECTOR
WHY MR. STRINGER WAS DISMISSED MR. HARRIS IN REPLY Mr. A. R. Harris, general manager of the New Zealand Radio Broadcasting Co., Ltd., telegraphs from Mount Cook to-day the following statement in reply to Mr. Trevor Stringer, who was recently relieved of his position as station director at IYA: “Mr. Stringer’s statement regarding his dismissal and appearing in your issue of February 27 misrepresents the. true position. The essential facts are few and simple and may be briefly stated as follows: Mr. Stringer was desirous of employment with the Broadcasting Company and was subsequently appointed station director of IYA, Auckland, a few months ago. In the opinion of the directors he proved himself quite incapable of efficiently conducting the company’s business. He was given an opportunity to resign, but refused. The Broadcasting Company therefore terminated his engagement in the interests of the broadcasting service.” “I have no wish to carry on a longwinded argument that can lead us nowhere,” saicl Mr. Trevor String€*.r when the above statement was submitted to him this morning. “I can only repeat my assertion that no reason was given for my dismissal. This is the first time I have heard that I was judged incompetent. “This statement does not go far enough,” continued Mr. Stringer. “Mr. Harris has not said in which way I was incapable—certainly not in running the station or the listeners would have been only too glad to get rid of me.”
