Council Will Cut Krbs and Pitchers
NO CONTRACTS OLD ORDERS FINISHED In future the City Council will e gt its own kerbs and pitchers. THIS decision was made last even--1 ing, as forecast in The Sun, and fa a passed without comment. A report to the council stated that to old contracts had been completed, a d only about 30,000 feet would be gelded this year, in view of the streets gjprovement loan having virtually run Nt The engineer reported that a •ondition of supply to the city was that 8-hour days and award wages must be observed. He understood that tens of thounnds of feet of kerbs and pitchers «re lying in quarries waiting to be applied, but no guarantee had been jtren that - the necessary conditions iad been observed. The Markets Committee recornjended cutting from stone on coun--41 property with council labour, and jit was agreed to.
