WOMAN SHOPLIFTER TO PAY £ls FINE
STOLE WHILE IN LIQUOR “TEMPTATION OF SHOPS” Flora Alice Gillies, a single woman, aged 41, was caught shoplifting yesterday. She was fined £ls at the Police Court to-day. She pleaded guilty to charges o£ stealing a dress valued at £8 18s, and other clothing valued at £2 10s. One offence was committed on February 10, and the other yesterday. Chief-Detective Hammond said that accused stole a jumper from a city drapery store yesterday, and when her shopping bag was searched a blouse and a bottie of beer were found. “She was under the Influence of liquor when arrested,” added Mr. Hammond.
Mr. Allan Moody, who appeared for accused, said that the temptations in shops were difficult for women to resist.
On one charge accused was fined £lO, and on the other £5. The default was fixed at five weeks’ imprisonment.
