FIVE SHOPS DAMAGED CONSIDERABLE LOSS SUFFERED (From Our Oxen CorrespondentJ TE AROHA, Tc-day. Te Aroha was the scene of another blaze at 10.35 a.m. this morning, when a fire, originating: in a jeweller's shop in the centre of the main street, completely gutted that building anc. spread through a block of five shops and affected another, causing heavy damage. The brigade made a great save, preventing the complete demolition of the buildings. The business men affected are: W. McCullay, jeweller.—Shop completely gutted and entire stock destroyed or seriously damaged. Stock insured in the Liverpool, London and Globe for £600; estimated loss £BOO. E. Tibby, vulcaniser. —Shop partially gutted; fairly extensive damage to stock: no insurance. Dick Brenan, bootmaker.—Building burned, stock worth about £1,700 being badly damaged by smoke and water; stock insured in South British for £ 600. A. M. Samuels, tailor. —Heavy damage to stock by fire and water; loss heavy; insurances not available. Hetheri ngton, Ltd., drapers.—Hamage to plate glass windows and mirrors, and front of building; insured. R. McKibbin, fishmonger.—Rear of building scorched; little other damage. The block of buildings burned was owned by J. M. Bell, and was covered by insurance in the Victoria Office. -The origin of the fire is a mystery.
