BOYS’ SILVER BAND There was a good attendance of members and others at the first annual meeting of the Taumarunui Boys' Silver Band, over which the Mayor, Mr. G. E. Manson, presided. The report for the year showed a very satisfactory state of progress, and the balance sheet disclosed a credit of £23 0s lid. Officers for the next term were elected as follow:—President, Mr. G. E. Manson: secretary, Mr. S. G. Manson; and the following committee of six, two others to be elected by the borough council, Messrs. J. Brown, W. H. Robinson, A. G. Kenderdine, C. H. Lawn, G. The secretray, Mr. S. B. Reed, reported that there was ever}' probability of the membership being largely increased in the near future, as the benefits of the club became more widely known, and the meeting resolved to procure a larger meeting room, and also to instal an aerial for the use of the club. Mr. D. H. Hall gave an instructive lecture on the wiring of a two-valve set, and received a vote of thanks. It is probable that the club will secure a ‘detective” instrument, for the purpose of discovering “howlers,” which are causing a certain amount of annoyance. * * » Taumarunui’s vital statistics for the month of February are as follow: Births 11, deaths 5, marriages 6. The total rainfall was 3.3 S inches, compared with approximately no rain for the preceding two months.
