AMBASSADOR TO BERLIN
SIR HORACE RUMBOLD APPOINTED KNOWLEDGE OF GERMANY British Wireless —Press Assn.—Copyright Reed, i. 15 p.m. RUGBY, Wednesday. The King has approved the appointment of Sir Horace Rumbold, Ambassador - Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary at Madrid to be Ambassador - Extraordinary and Sir Horace Rumbold was Charge d’ Affaires in Berlin at the outbreak of the war. Newspapers in England express satisfaction with the appointment of a diplomatist who has had so long and so distinguished a career, and who has already served in Berlin. The opinion is expressed that his previous knowledge of Germany will enable him to consolidate the friendly relations which have been the objeef of Lord D’Abernon and Sir Ronald Lindsay, his predecessors in Berlin.—A. and N.Z. The Rt. Hon.- Sir Horace Rumbold# K.C.M.G., M.V.0., was born on February 5, 1869. He received his diplomatic experience in the embassies at the Hague, Cairo, Teheran, Vienna, Madrid, Munich, Tokio and Berlin. For the six months previous to the war he was Charge d’Affaires at Berlin, and during the war he was British Minister to Switzerland and Poland. He was British High Commissioner at Constantinople from 1920 to 1924, and signed the Lausanne Treaty on behalf of the British Empire.
